The very first expression of love that you receive is a hug. It’s your very first experience with human contact and a universal expression of acceptance. A nurse wraps you up, holds you tight, and carries you to your mother – the source of life. You are placed on her chest and all you feel is love!

This is why hugs are so important. We get hugs when we are young, and that feeling of love and security becomes a permanent part of us. But as we grow in life, we may stray from the simplicity and innocence of the love we felt. That’s why Uncle Wallie is asking, “Did you get your hug?” We’re helping to promote the benefits of a simple hug and make the world a better place!

Oxytocin is referred to as the love hormone. It can help us bond with loved ones and can be released through the simple touch, or a hug. Oxytocin appears to build trust, reduce fear and anxiety, and increase compassion and generosity. It’s also related to lowering blood pressure. Low oxytocin levels have even been linked to symptoms of depression.

A simple hug can bring you back to that feeling of security and acceptance. When you receive a hug, your heart remembers!

While some hugs are warm and friendly, others are intimate and romantic. The body language through this one simple act reveals the kind of relationship that’s shared. There are tight hugs, side hugs, polite hugs, and hugs that console.

Although hugs are proven to be beneficial, we must always exercise caution before hugging someone. It’s important to respect someone’s personal space who prefers to avoid that kind of contact.

Uncle Wallie says, “Give someone a hug, one from you and one from your favorite Uncle – you’ll get two hugs!”
